This is one of those rare films that has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. With Hitchcock directing it’s clear to see why but in all honesty I don’t think it deserves 100%. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an enjoyable film with a fascinating story line but nothing particularly stood out to me as being perfect. The story follows L.B. Jeffries who is stuck in a wheelchair and housebound due to a broken leg in a racing car accident. He keeps himself occupied by watching people’s lives through the window and before he knows he witnesses something that lands him in trouble. This film is hardly action packed but nonetheless it is full of suspense and is cleverly drawn out. In terms of the story I loved how every window had its own little world and sub plot. It added to the realism and helped to build up the world of this little neighbourhood. The acting and chemistry between the characters felt very real. The relationship between Jeffries and Lisa was sweet even if it was a little dysfunctional. The film was dialogue heavy which can tend to make or break a film but nothing felt too clunky or awkward. There was a dash of humour which came from the teasing between the characters. There were definitely parts of the plot that didn’t make a huge amount of sense, for instance if Jeffries wanted evidence, surely he could’ve taken a picture? He was looking right through the camera lens so it wasn’t like he didn’t have his camera on him. This film was enjoyable though it did at times feel a little boring. My biggest problem with this film was that it wasn’t a flawless film and maybe that’s why I disagree with the 100% rating. I’d give it 7/10.
